Scandi’s everywhere! There’s been a lot of hype about week 9 and the invasion o the Scandinavians, and we certainly did experience it! Standing in Le Graal this week, talking to one of my male friends, a Scandi guy with perfectly manicured hair, tight jeans and a knitted jumper (you know the one) actually asked me… and I quote ‘ why are you talking to him, I’m much better looking than he is, don’t you think I’m good looking?’ So that’s been my experience with week 9, I hope yours was just as entertaining!

The weeks are rolling on by and we’re starting to get some bluebird goodness and sunshine days, the Folie has been going off this week, and now we gear up for issue 12 of TME. Sit back, relax, and enjoy it!

The Snowpack Report

Good Snow, Stable Snowpack but a few ‘Glide Cracks’ and ‘Glide Avalanches’

The forecast is for warming this weekend then maybe a bit of snow through the middle of the week!

Glide cracks and glide avalanches: the snowpack is very stable at the moment, but there are some glide cracks out there that could turn into glide avalanches (see my blog for photos of current examples getoffpiste.com). These glide cracks are mostly on south’ish slopes except for a couple on north slopes like the Lavachet in Tignes. one glide crack there turned into a small glide avalanche last week (again see my blog for current photos). They aren’t all that dangerous since it is most improbable that you will set one into motion by triggering it, BUT I wouldn’t have a pic-nic on one or under one because these glide cracks can turn into glide avalanches… and some have already gone as I mentioned! We often call these cracks ‘creepers’ which is technically wrong since ‘gliding’ is when the snowpack slides along the ground surface and ‘creeping’ is the process of the snow layers settling and moving downslope inside the snowpack.

Tip of the week
Watch out for these glide cracks over the weekend and this coming week as things get warm. The warming will lead to instability and some big nasty glide avalanches!!

Hannah

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

She’s a stunner from the UK, Princess Hannah (called that at home because she is very spoilt) is doing her first season in Val and working as a barmaid at the Moris Pub. She an accustomed to ski bumming, having spent a bit of time with her man in Meribel in years gone past. She’ll do anything for a fiver… only kidding… better make it 4! Here’s what’s in Hannah’s kit –

I never wear knickers
hate em! They’re bunchy and irritating and make your jeans look bad. If I have to, for boarding it’s only Jack Wills or D&G. Fair enough we say!

Board
Salomon Lilly popster, with pandas and smarties on it, my boyfriend kitted me out form head to toe, I’ve got all the gear and no idea!

I love
Peas and gravy, peas are like green little bundles of happiness, can’t get enough!

You’ll find me
with Mikaela getting things wrong, or not understanding… generally confused!

Favourite bar in town
Le Petit Danois, foR the gorgeous staff! Closely followed by Victors for the same reasons!

Just like to add
Vote for me and Claire taylor for the next Eurovision with our dance routine, it’s amazing! Or check it out one drunken evening in the Moris staff corridor!
